According to the NHTSA, there were more than 290 people killed and another 20,000 injured every year because of back-over accidents. Of those fatally injured in these accidents, more than 225 of them involved a motor-vehicle that weighs less than 10,000 pounds. The NJHTSA recognizes the risks that elderly and child pedestrians face for these accidents. As a matter of fact, nearly 45 percent of these fatalities typically happen to those under the age of 5. This is an alarmingly high percentage for any type of accident. Another 35 percent happens to those over the age of 69.
